You may not get the right kind of sleep at night with your work style. But make sure that your child gets the right kind of sleep at the right time!
- If hubby is at home during your nightshifts, make sure that you have an understanding with your partner that no matter what, the child is in bed at a particular time.
- Do not allow the child to watch something frightening on TV (especially before going to bed) or to play a violent video game. This will only make the child feel restless and prevent him from falling asleep.
- Call up your child at bedtime and make sure he is in bed.
- Wish him a firm goodnight.
- If the child is very young, hubby could cuddle up to him till he falls asleep.
- Hubby or grandmother could read an interesting storybook to the child so that he unwinds.
You may not be physically available, but if people at home understand that you are keeping tabs via the mobile for the sake of the child, things will work out fine. But this has to be done from day one!
